I made this fan art to celebrate Hedorah's and Gigan's back-to-back 50th anniversaries (in 2021 and 2022, respectively).

But a fun what-if that I gathered is that the Nebulans told of how their planet was destroyed by pollution. While not outright stated, it's not a big stretch to say Hedorah could have been involved. Perhaps that's why Gigan is covered in blades - Godzilla defeated Hedorah by tearing it into smaller chunks to dehydrate it; maybe Gigan was meant to cut smog monsters down to size.

But that's the tragedy of Gigan's battle here. Nothing was done to curb the pollution, so Hedorah kept coming back again and again. Gigan's victories are for naught. Monsters fight monsters, not the means that create them.
